And I'm celebrating with a song. I didn't owe this year, but watching my Dad try to organize his paperwork for two weeks and get it to his tax guy close to the last moment was just hard to watch. I'd never seen him in such a dither. I mentioned he needs a better organizing system for next year,to which he replied there was nothing wrong with his system, things just weren't where they were supposed to be" *Groan*
At any rate, things can settle back to normal for awhile and I can now get back to my music. Loving many genres of music,I ordered a banjo book by Fred Sokolow on ragtime & blues banjo. I've always loved blues & could fingerpick tunes on guitar in high school. In addition,
I think I had a life changing moment watching KOCE out here. During one of their asking for pledges programs, I got to see Hugh Laurie play blues in New Orleans and I tell you,it was amazing. The show is called "let Them Talk" and it featured New Orleans legends that I can't remember the names of. But-being a mandolinist and attempting to be a fiddler, it was the first time I had seen mandolin and violin used in blues and it was a treat. I loved it. To the point I'm now starting to study blues mandolin. The conductor for the horn section was just amazing. The guy hardly moved, was very low key, and smooth. But in those subtle movements he communicated very clearly to the guys following him and they sounded great.
And I found a book on Yank Rachell,a legendary blues mandolinist for a steal. Of course I ordered it!
I believe I may take an acoustic electric mandolin I got for next to nothing in to be set up properly so I can play it.
Back to banjo.....I haven't played in a few days as everything here seemed all up in the air and whirling. But that will change today. I have been noodling with carols, and want to try some blues tunes on it as well as learning more rolls.
Went back to drinking soy milk after hearing some of the benefits for women. And this morning I learned of more. Just what the dr ordered. I missed not having it & it has a special chill that other drinks don't-makes it great on a hot day (Summer is stopping in this week-supposed to be mid 80's by Sat. Egad!)
