Hello! Please invite other BHO members that you might know are Vietnam Vets to join our group. There were 2,594,000 personnel who served within the borders of South Vietnam from Jan. 1, 1965 to Mar. 28, 1973. I imagine there are few more Vietnam Vets in BHO. I realize our main focus is the banjo, which I truly love. But, perhaps we can make our group the fastest growing one in BHO! I appreciate your help and thanks for your service in Nam! Denny Trayer

Hi - OT John (Adams) from out in Oregon here. I was glad to find this group. I was one of those late draftees who got drafted right after college graduation. Served with the 1st Cav Div, 2/20 Artillery in '69-70. Hard to believe it was that long ago. Was a 60's folkie type in HS playing guitar. Started playing bluegrass banjo in the mid 70s or so and saw the light and switched to clawhammer in the late 70s and never looked back. Love old time banjo, jamming, playing, performing...yadda yadda. Thanks for startling the group and thanks to all of you for your service. Welcome back, brothers.

Newbie here. Just joined the group. Like OTJohn, three months after graduating from college, I was drafted, did basic at Fort Polk, La., the Fort Sill, Okla. for artillery AIT. MOS was 13E20, Fire Direction Control. Served for 13-1/2 months in Nam with the 1st Field Force, 105mm Scorpions, 1970-71. I have always liked folk music, Beatles, played guitar, etc. Took to bluegrass banjo in the early '70's. Took lessons in Houston but tired of the drive. Never got very god but really enjoy trying.

Thanks for your military service and welcome to the group, PickinFool! It seems that many of us were drafted and served in Nam-Several folks were in Artillery units. I did one tour with 5/4 Arty in Northern I Corp 1970-71; Quang Tri, Khe-Sahn and various fire bases. It's great that we all survived, found bluegrass music and enjoy playing the banjo!

Hey all, self teaching banjo with books, videos, and DVD's for three years now. Currently using the Murphy Method and enjoying the banjo journey. Enlisted in the Army Aug 68 after high school. Basic and 63B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic AIT at Ft. Dix then to Ft. Benning Jan 69 for 63C Tracked Vehicle Mechanic AIT. Went to Vietnam Apr 69 and was assigned to HHC 3rd Bde 82d ABN in the Tan Son Nhut/Saigon AO and Phu Loi until Dec 69 when the Bde redeployed to the U.S. I then got transferred to Svc Btry 1/30th Arty 1st Cav Div in Long Binh, then Bien Hoa with occasional trips to Tay Ninh. Home on leave Apr 70.
