I was casually looking at banjos on eBay a few weeks ago and before I knew it I'd bought one. Work and holidays got in the way so I've only just started practicing and am making slow, steady progress (of sorts!) guided by YouTube. Really enjoying it and have ever increasing respect for those who make it sound as it should. It's not as easy as it looks... but I knew that before I started. Any tips or advice very welcome. James.

	simesa says: 8/15/2014 9:45:02 AM Practise! I'm only a few months ahead of you - and there is no substitute for practise I'm afraid. It's a lot harder than it looks - and it only looks easy when you've been doing it a few years I think!

I also use youtube for videos and lessons as well and have also been fortunate to have found myself a local tutor recently. I found this site as a real good starter for me rickmckeon.com/banjolessons.html and also have a look for Rob Borassa, Bill (William) Nesbitt, Joff Lowson and Chris Talley Armstrong, they all offer good tutorial work on you tube, good luck and enjoy....

	Debs says: 8/15/2014 12:47:44 PM Welcome James! There are loads of great resources right here on the Hangout - have a look around, there might be something that suits your style of learning. Slow and steady is the way forward. The main thing is to have fun, and enjoy your banjo journey.
Goldman says: 8/15/2014 1:32:22 PM Hi Well at least you found the right way for the picks,will help somewhat I think,must have been real fun playing that way,only way is practice,no magic tricks as far as I know,but they say that it will get better at some point,just make sure you have fun with it,it is a hell of a learnig curve,but if you listen to some good banjo players,it sort of gives you a boost if things arnt always going too well,loads of help on here and web,utube etc. Good Luck on your journey
