Banjo Insurance

From Russell Carson on 2/23/2011 1:31:33 PM

Hey guys, this is something I really need to address really soon. After my last flights with Audie & Redline I need to have both of my banjos covered and insured. I mainly play a Huber Vintage with the HR-30 and a Gold Star GF-85 with a prototype Gary Price no hole ring. I carry them in a Price travel case, and I try to carry on as much as I can. I recently had a big problem with South West, they would not let me gate check my case. (I have never had a problem gate checking before) “Gate checking is for helpful items such as strollers & wheelchairs” I almost lost my cool when they told me my Huber was going through the main baggage system at Chicago. But I lucked out and was able to carry it on.  So I was just wondering what you guys do to cover your five’s.  Thanks,

Russ C

russell, i worked the road for a number of years, i guess being old school, i kept my ax close when i wasnt on stage, and i never flew, but i did worry what would i do in the event of someone, stealing or my ax being damanaged. the only damage i ever incurred was with a ups shipping order, and luckly, my luthier had insured my banjo, in short, they paid up. i bet if you ask around, some other ex or current road musician can direct you in the right direction, but replaceing the instruments themsleves aint the problem, its replaceing the sound! See if your homeowners, or aprtment insurnace will cover them, but i've heard that there are clauses for professional road musicians, either way, good luck, warp

Russ
Check with the Clarion Associates group. They cover instruments when you travel. Homeowners typically will only cover your stuff when its in your home or auto policies, when in your car.
