I miss my Gig....

From archtop717 on 2/3/2011 3:44:39 AM

I was lucky enough to get a spot on a show called Nashville City Limits" at the American Music Theater in Lancaster, PA.  It ran for three months and now I miss that stage sooooo much.  1600 people in the audience every afternoon and evening and I got to play with some great people.  Why can't these jobs last forever.......Now its back to the sales job and playing weekends, life is just not fair, bitch...bitch...bitch, sorry for the whinning.

I tried to promote myself and get another fulltime gig, but sucked at it.  At 58, I guess I should just wait to retire and then go for it.  Can anyone relate to this? Advise would be welcomed.   Bob

Yeah those regular 'house' gigs are nice and secure, but they generally dont last all that long unfortunately. I sympathize with you Bob. There's been a few really good playing house jobs Ive beend lucky to find. One lasted almost a year then the club closed-bummer. Was this a variety music show?

Yes. A mixture of old and new Country with some Bluegrass thrown in. I made the mistake of telling them I played a little (very little) Dobro, and I ended up playing playing on Boondocks and a couple of Travis Trit tunes. I had to learn the parts in two days! It was intense.

Hi Bob - Dobro eh? yes, I think all of us have 'overstated our resume' at some point and had to pay the price for it lol!! But it can sometimes push you in a direction you wouldn't normally go, and can be a good thing.
