From joemac on 1/29/2011 9:36:48 AM

Well Gang, i,m off to see Marty stuart tomorrow night. He's doing a couple of shows over here in the UK and ya got to give it to Marty for musicianship, so heck, lets take a look. Then Bob and I start into our season early this year with a couple of good gigs at roots clubs across the midlands. Febuary see's me down on the south coast doing some workshops and seminars, then up to the midlands for another one of Jane Crosby's wonderful beginners days, yours truley as the supposed expert. London is hosting a bluegrass / americana style music week in May and Bob and i have picked up a gig on that week with the Coulston bluegrass club..So thats me up to date so far, how about you guys? anything cookin?

Thanks for the update Joe. Sounds liker like the UK is hoppin'. My gig calendar is slowly starting to come to life. The Shady Grove Band actually book some shows in PA for this year. Its the first real gigs we've had as a group in 2 years. Im playing with 4 groups now, but it will be great to get the SGB some work again. Todd Taylor was asking about doing some session work on some of his projects, so we'll see how that shapes up.

Good deal Joe, to be THAT busy in FEB is killer!
You DO stay quite busy all the time though.

Last time I saw marty Stuart was when I was playing the Wheeling Jamboree and he was with Lester. I think I just dated myself.
Have fun Joe!

Hi Laurence,
You've mentioned a few times about your playing experience. I'm curious to know who you were playing with when you were touring, and what instruments you were playing.

Hi Dave - thanks for the interest. I wouldn't want to turn this into a very long blog all about me so I will try and keep it brief. I moved here from England in 76 and started with the Morris Bros. out of Charleston WV. But by 1980 I was playing electric guitar in various roadbands - Rick Phelps from Kentucky Headhunters you might have heard of. Country, country rock, swing, blues rock etc. I also play alto and tenor sax.I would play in Bluegrass and Dawg-like bands on the side. I never played music I hated, but you know how it is - gotta make that money!

I think it would be great for members to give a synopsis of their playing careers. It would help us to know each other better. Thanks for that Laurence. SOunds like you were very well rounded, genre wise.

Yeah , no offence guys, but new subject matter could be started by opening a new thread, that way we get several interesting threads going, sorry to sound grumpy over this.

Good point Joe. Its hard to keep up with this blog format. Back on topic..Yeah, Marty is a very underrated picker. Hes a nice guy too. Did you get to chat with him any? I'll start another thread with "Intros" as the topic. Are you guys alright with me deleting all these non pertinent posts here, even this one?

Ok, I'll delete the non-pertinent ones. If anyone wants to copy them/move to another topic, nows the chance.
