Changing tunings

From AndyW on 4/9/2018 8:08:30 AM

Over the last month I have ventured outside my 'normal' (as in what I've used for 8 months) double C tuning into open G.  For about two days it seemed almost impossible, but that quickly turned around and I'm now learning my 3rd tune.

Just thought I'd point out using different tunings isn't all that difficult in the end, so have a go. Also, if you do try it, perservere through the first few sessions as it gets easier.

Good for you! Alternate tunings are interesting but somewhat of a challenge to get used to even with the electric tuner.

Open G is really fun. Enjoy! Are you playing the Festival tunes? Do you use your metronome a lot?

@Northl .Lynda I have i used Dan's'Festival' for two G/A tunes, Old Joe Clark and June Apple. I've also learned a very basic Cripple Creek, and am now using my Miles Krassen book for some sawmill tunes.

How do you like Miles Krassen?

Hard to tell as I've only learned 2 tunes. So far the tunes seem playable. Big use of ASPO's where Dan doesn't seem to use them much. Not much hammering on. Often prefers to thumb a fifth string than fret a first.
