Sunflower arm rest...

Hi Folk, So, I seem to have worn away the nickel on my Sunflower arm rest. Has anyone had these re-chromed? Is it worthwhile or just accept the wear as a sign of used affection?  All best,... Read More

Stelling pip?

I have an 88 whitestar with a spike behind the 5th fret. If I wanted to replace with a bone pip inline with the (shortened) fret is that acceptable/ a good idea?

Tablature: Colored Aristocracy (Cakewalk)
Linked by Tom Hanway 7 years ago: Great jazz tune, here using voice-leading, with harmony notes underneath and melody on top. It's a very straight version of the "head."

MP3: New Five Cents (Ruffled Drawers) - Double D Tuning
Linked by Tom Hanway 7 years ago: Here is an unadorned version using Double D tuning (Double C-Capo II) for the Old Time reel that goes under interchangeable titles. Hornpipe version to follow with lots of fretting-hand ornamentation.

Music for a Found Harmonium
Linked by Tom Hanway 7 years ago: This quirky tune from the Penquin Cafe Orchestra has found its way into mainstream Irish and Celtic music as a reel. I've put it back to its original keys, and it can be capoed up two or four frets.

Take Five
Linked by Tom Hanway 7 years ago: This tune has found its way into Irish traditional music circles, and I play it regularly with James Wickham (button accordion) at the Cryan's session in Carrick on Bannow, Co. Leitrim.

MP3: Mason's Apron, The - from Complete Book of Irish & Celtic 5-String Banjo
Linked by Tom Hanway 7 years ago: A companion track to Complete Book of Irish & Celtic 5-String Banjo, notice the ascending Barney McKenna (Dubliners) variation in the A part. 3 well-known parts here, but there are always more parts!

Johnny Has Gone to France
Linked by Tom Hanway 7 years ago: This is a lovely reel that I find works beautifully in between 'The Man of the House' and 'The Cameronian', here presented in Celtic fingerstyle.

Greenfields of America
Linked by Tom Hanway 7 years ago: This tune, tabbed here in Celtic fingerstyle, was famously recorded (1927) with The Swallowtail's Reel by Sligo fiddling legend Michael Coleman.
