I'm going to need a new head soon for my '82 (pre-Pass block rim), and was wondering what folks familiar with Stellings recommend - brand, crown height, etc. I've never replaced one before.

	BobbyE says: 11/2/2016 11:49:23 AM Geoff has always used Ludwigs but I think they have stopped making them. You might find one by shopping around though since that was pretty recent and might be a few still out there. Other than that possibility, the Remo's are those that are offshoots from them, (meaning a different coating or thickness) is about all I have ever heard of. Fibreskyn also comes to mind. Check with some folks like Janet Davis Music or Elderly. They should be able to cover about all the possibilities.

	Geoff Stelling says: 11/2/2016 2:21:24 PM Craig, Since Ludwig quit making banjo heads, I have contracted with Remo to make heads with my logo (the only way they will sell heads) that are crimped rather than glued around the periphery into the rim just like the Ludwigs. I have more faith in these heads than the glued in type Remo has made for decades. They are on my website at $15 each and well worth it.

	banjolefty5 says: 11/21/2016 7:11:51 PM Geoff is right, those heads are great, especially for hard driving bluegrass! Fabulous on my Master's Cross. Now that being said, if you enjoy playing melodic songs or songs with those "haunting" minor keys such as Ghost Riders, June Apple, Wayfaring Stranger, Lonesome Moonlight Waltz, etc., it is hard to beat an Elite Amber Head (IMHO). Sounds strange I know! These heads sound especially lovely on a Stelling archtop, (which you should also own). I keep all 3 of my Stellings on stands at all times (set up differently). I pick up the one that matches my playing mood for that day. Happy Pickin'
