Crusader Head

From momo on 9/1/2016 4:49:51 PM

My Ludwig head when I tighten it down to put the tension hoop even or below the end of the fingerboard...its super tight like tuned to a C note....Why is that?  if i leave the head at A the tension hoop sits high, possibly interfering with the strings noting up the fingerboard.

The head needs to be reset on the tonering. Start with two j-hooks on either side of the neck, then two on either side of the tail piece. Then put one on either side of the pot in the middle. Tighten each hook starting with the ones around the neck till the head looks even and add the rest of the j-hooks. Tighten with the nut driver one hook at a time starting on the right side of the neck and go all the way around at about a half turn at a time till they are all evenly tight. Then go around at 1/4 turn per hook the same way. When the head is at about 91 on the drum dial, or about A flat, the tension hoop should be low enough to not interfere with the strings.
