Alan Munde Signature Staghorn

From momo on 8/21/2016 5:48:56 PM

I have an Alan Munde Signature Staghorn serial # 4738. Does anybody have an idea how many of this model were built? Also is Birch similar to Maple or is it harder.

Don't know about the Munde numbers question but in general Birch is a bit softer than Maple but it can vary depending upon a lot variables that can affect the hardness.

I like this table because it's arranged alphabetically instead of by hardness like most other similar tables.

I counted 17 Alan Munde Staghorns. #4738 was the 15th one made and was one of only two to not have the signature in the 19th fret inlay position. I feel like birch is harder than maple in general. It is certainly heavier. Of course, there are lots of maples and we use the softer big leaf variety a lot.

Bill Lammers(Banjo Bill) on the Hangout here has the twin to mine without the Signature also. Out of 17 I have only seen about two of them, where are they all?

I haven't been hanging around for years.... but I should be a member of the group. I own #3. And I thank Geoff for his kind communication and assistance when I was buying it. I am thrilled to own it, and gently play it.... my second Stelling... I wish I could find my previous Staghorn (and return it to the fold).... beautiful banjos and quality manufacture, with great playability.... LOVE LOVE LOVE Stelling instruments . Thank you, Geoff.

Who has a benchmark of what the Alan Munde's are worth these days?

I own serial number 4571. It was assembled on 3/3/1997.
