There was another recent post about the recommended drum dial number for a Stelling, and 91 seems to be the consensus. I just wonder if it would be different with the archtop tone ring. The banjo in question is a Red Fox built in 2007.

	gottasmilealot says: 6/24/2014 6:16:45 PM I'm dealing from memory, and not particularly about Stellings, but an archtop would give me a full tone higher at the same reading, so if a 90 gave me an "A" note on a flathead, it would give me a "B" note on an archtop. Experiment for the sound you like best.

I'd be inclined to start with an 85 and work your way up to a 90 to what sound really gets to you. I am guessing, and really going out on a limb here, that an 87 might sound good on an archtop. But so might a 92. You'll have to hear and decide for yourself.
