My new Crusader

From Cotten Patch Rag on 2/10/2011 3:30:37 PM

Just received my new Crusader from a fellow HO member and have learned it has a "longer scale neck".  Not quite sure I know what this means and why a banjo would be made this way.  Anyone answer this question for me?

And yes, I will admit it:  if  Alan Munde plays one then I need one too.  I sound just like him.  Really, I do.

Humbly yours,  Jimmypick

I'm not sure why either except that I think John Hartford's Deering was made speshly with a longer neck so it would sound good tuned to open E, I think to match his vocal range. It had/has a grenadillo wood rim to save weight and add the tone he wanted as well.
