Capo recommendations

From Ragtimejoe on 11/6/2013 2:29:41 PM

I am requesting capo recommendations for my new Sunflower. I'm been using a Paige which I can leave on the neck behind the nut. It appears this capo doesn't fit with the Stelling and the stock case.

What capos are other folks using? I'd like to have on that I can leave on the neck behind the nut, but it's nut a requirement.

Thanks

Joe

Open the capo and stick it in a flange hole.

Joe,
I've been using a Paige capo for years and it has stayed on the banjo in the case right behind the nut. I've also had an old Tom McKinney capo that stays on my other banjo the same way. Maybe the case needs a modification to allow the capo to fit that way. Otherwise, the above suggestion of storing it in a flange hole might be ok, but I'd worry about it falling out if the case was turned over.

Geoff,

If you say a Paige works I'm not going to question it. I'm going to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Thank you very much.

BTW, Clyde was great to work with.

I use a Paige Click capo (wide enough to go past fret 4) that moves to peg head when not in use. A little sloppy on the peg head but no problems on the neck or stock case. 1980 Bellflower.

Try putting the capo directly on the nut instead of on the headstock side of the nut. Thst changes the angle such that it will just fit in a case sometimes.

Never thought of that. I'll try it. Thanks

I'm beginning to see that the fit is really with the adjusting thumb screw at the bottom of the capo. I have had that problem, but I think I just loosened the thumb screw to allow the capo to straighten up a bit in front of the case's neck rest. That goes along with the comment above about setting the capo right on the nut. Best of luck.

I have a Kat Eyz on my Sunflower and I really like it. Very thin solid and not in the way.
