The other day I purchased a Remo Fiberskyn head for my Stelling just to try it out and see how it changed the tone of the banjo. Well I changed the head last night and just can't believe the Stelling. At first the tone was a little muddy, I tighted the head to 20 on the drum torque and raised the tail piece a little and bam the Stelling sound was right back with the crack and pop that I like. I was worried about trying this head but I like the looks of it, (imitating a real skin head) I didn't have to worry. Geoff Stelling makes a fantastic machine. Anyone have experience with a different heads? I had a Gibson RB800 back in the 80's and it was terrible, just about changed everything on the banjo but no luck in getting even close to a Stelling sound.
