I have been saving to buy a Stelling for a long time now and I'm just about ready! Are there many fakes or copies out there I need to be aware of? I bought a Gibson 30 years ago and it turned out to be a Gold Star with a Gibson Logo. I still like it and it sounds great BUT.... I have wanted a STELLING for a long time. I hope its worth the wait!

	Ybanjo says: 2/9/2013 5:12:38 PM I also had (still do) a Gold Tone and it was fine banjo for learning. But now.... I've got a Staghorn and it's hard to go back to play on the Gold Tone. I just keep it tuned to Gm. Saves a lot of tuning time. You will be amazed at the difference in sound, especially on the lower end! Very smooth and clean. Well worth the price.
	the Twanger says: 2/10/2013 1:45:09 AM Either buy from a reputable dealer or do your homework. Should come with a certificate of authenticity. Check everything corresponds, serial numbers etc. if not sure then walk away. Remember if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Good Luck. I have a swallowtail it was expensive but you pay for quality. Finally you will have it for the rest of your life so enjoy!
	jonfinder says: 2/10/2013 5:45:59 AM Seems unlikely that there are fakes out there but perhaps Geoff can comment. No question that this is a great banjo and had been the choice of many influential pickers like Alison Brown, Tony Trischka, Bill Emerson and many others.

However, I feel pretty confident that if you deal with a bonafide Stelling dealer, you will get a bonafide Stelling banjo. You can always resort to asking me what I think. All the best, Geoff

John Schleich says: 2/11/2013 4:52:42 AM Mike, I've got a 2004 Stelling Crusader deluxe. It is a beautiful instrument, plays like a dream, and sounds wonderful. You will love Stelling banjos as well as the company. Wonderful craftsmen who really take pride in what they do! If you can, get the Stelling banjo anthology. Cut in 2005 I think. You will hear a variety of wonderful Stellings. John
