I have owned a 1979 Stelling Whitestar for several years. It has been retro-fitted with a Tony pass old wood rim and now bears the serial # 969 OWS.

My banjo has an ebanol fretboard, which has never given me any trouble other than the top of the truss rod had to be filed down a little recently when I replaced the truss rod cover.

I love the feel and the sound of my banjo. I will be using it again all summer at various festival gigs. It sounds great on a festival stage and I used it on my recent CD.

I play a mix of bluegrass, folk, and jazz and the Whitestar works well for everything. I used it on Cactus Road, an original tune from my CD that I have uploaded to my homepage.

My Whitestar is a solid banjo that I thoroughly enjoy. I decided to post this entry simply because Whitestars are discussed infrequently and I wanted to change that.

	jonfinder says: 5/18/2012 11:01:32 AM I have a 1980 Whitestar, which I bought for the princely sum of $1000 as a college student. I can still remember the moment I took it out of its case. 32 years later it plays great. I am debating replacing the rim but I think I'll get a new Stelling with the Tony Pass rim and keep my Whitestar original. I am told that they stopped making the Whitestar many years ago. 	Ralph Stanley legend says: 5/19/2012 4:06:02 PM I have a 1988 Maple Whitestar ( 3 ply rim ) and it is fabulous. I love the wood stain, Argentine Gray. Nothing to touch it ( apart from maybe another Stelling ! Enjoy !
	Geoff Stelling says: 5/21/2012 9:12:21 AM The Whitestar was probably the most produced model of all Stellings and had a metamorphosis from being made first of walnut (#3 - a lefty), then mahogany, then maple, and now nothing since 3-17-88, serial #3293. So, the Whitestar spanned 15 years and 3290 serial numbers, although the exact number made has not been tallied. The fancier version of the Whiestar is the Superstar of which there are 140. Geoff
	5 String says: 6/1/2012 4:14:55 PM I have a dark stained maple Whitestar, serial #3267, mfg date 1-15-88. It is a fine banjo that has served me well. It is definitely a keeper.
swaarabu says: 9/11/2012 10:40:11 AM I am the proud new owner of a beautiful ('79 maple) Superstar, #1165 I just purchased from the original owner. It needed some cleaning and a new set up (the very nice owner confessed to never having changed the strings, having not played it in 25 years or so!) and I am absolutely in love! Incredible how it came roaring back to life with a little TLC. Thanks to Geoff back in CA when they made this over 30 years ago- looks like new, sounds like a classic!
