Stelling tuners

From Ralph Stanley legend on 2/1/2012 11:06:59 AM

At long last, my 1988 Stelling Whitestar #3276 arrived from the U.S. It is a wonderful Banjo. Maple finished in a kind of Argentine Gray. I really love it. Clearly, it has not seen much use and had just the original owner before me.

It does have Keith tuners on 2 + 3 which are a tad stiff. I'm hoping they will loosen up with use, as I will not send them back to the States for service.

Can I ask, which size pegs will fit my Stelling, and could I obtain a 2nd + 3rd peg to match my existing original pegs ?

I have never had to change tuning pegs before, is it relatively straightforward ?

Thank you guys,

Best

David

Geoff Stelling sells tuners to match. He'll also know the size. They're listed on the Stelling website. They are pretty easy to do. Send him an email.

David,
A 1988 Stelling would normally have Schaller B4 Excentric (pancake shaped) tuners. They have the Stelling logo stamped in the housing on the back. The hole size is 10 mm and the Keiths are 3/8" which is a few thousandths smaller, so there is no problem installing Schallers in those holes. If you want to order the original tuners, you can do it on my website.
All the best,
Geoff

Thank you guys, thank you Geoff. I will give them a few days to ease up, if no joy, I will order replacements to match the originals.
By the way, this is not me holding " Nellie " but my 8 year old son, who was equally excited as I was !
best wishes
David

Geoff, may I ask, do you have a record of the bridge size that you shipped this banjo with originally ? It currently has an 11/16ths and I beleive it to be the original Stelling bridge.
#3276 February 1988 I beleive.
Thankyou !
