Late for School
I had bought a new Stelling banjo. I had learned about them from my friend and fellow player Billy Connolly, the comedian and international artiste. It arrived, and I took it out of the case, and started playing this song. I cant tell you why it should happen this way, but it was as though the song had been shipped in the box. I gave it the title “Late for School,” and it was purely an instrumental. During the recording, I found myself thinking that the image the song produced of a young boy late for school was extremely vivid. I wrote the lyrics a month later a month later, and we recorded them after manipulating the existing track.

	Geoff Stelling says: 1/4/2012 9:24:38 AM Steve bought the SwallowTail Deluxe on which he recorded Late for School. Later he bought a custom MasterFlower with a solid old wood Pass archtop (no tonering), gold plated and engraved. As of this date, he has not recorded with the latter that I know of. But, he says he likes it a lot. Geoff

Inspired by my mentor's recently acquired sun flower and having Geoff join my friend's list on the hangout, I guess there was no contest when I looked to upgrade my gold tone. I'm still trying to figure out how I persuaded my Wife to let me get a pre owned red fox. It has taken a couple of weeks to get used to the thinner neck profile but I have great hopes for a quantum leap in my playing ability in 2012. I look forward to reading all about your tips and experiences and advice in the coming months. Here's to the year to come.
