Can any of you fellow afficonados out the tell me what the headstock overlay is made of? I have a 1980 model with ebonol fretboard. It looks dark as ebonol, but on pictures of newer ones with Ebony fretboards the overlay looks equally dark as on my banjo.

	Geoff Stelling says: 12/26/2011 3:06:07 PM Please be assured that all Stelling headstock veneers have been ebony since we started in 1974. Even though we succumbed to the use of synthetic Ebonol for fingerboards for 2 years, we always used real ebony for the pegheads (except for a few of the early Foggy Mountain models). Geoff
	Norand says: 12/26/2011 3:28:37 PM Thank you, Geoff. It is just a very dark stain then. I most certainly did not mean to question the quality. Everything looks and feels spectacular. I was just admiring it and pondering the question after wiping it of and tucking it in it's case for the night.
	Geoff Stelling says: 12/28/2011 7:53:46 AM I suppose you just made a typo error in your second sentence: "It is just a very dark stain, then." I hope you meant "not" instead. I know many banjos in the past have had dark stained pearwood for peghead veneers. Not ours.
	Norand says: 12/28/2011 12:51:09 PM Oh unstained. I know next to nothing about that part of instrument making. It amazes me that the finish makes it so completely black. Very fine wood indeed. I'll have to take a closer look tomorrow in our few hours of daylight. I didn't realize the qualities of ebony in that respect. Stunning. Apologies for insinuations of (what I didn't realize) was lesser workmanship. That was by no means intended.
