Stelling featured on bluegrass documentary

From wjtank on 12/21/2011 6:30:28 AM

This morning, I discovered a youtube video that I had not seen previously. It's a German documentary on bluegrass music which features a segment on Geoff Stelling starting around the 9:00 mark. It continues onto part two of the video through about the 1:11 mark.

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_x1989H8yZ8&feature=related

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWesORbpbWE&feature=related

The videos feature Geoff and his shop, and Geoff delivering a banjo to Larry Wallace, who was playing with Jimmy Martin at the time.

Enjoy !

Fantastic ! Great to see Geoff, Larry Wallace, and the great Jimmy Martin who I was lucky enough to know during a brief spell in the US via my ol' buddy Sim Daley.

All in all a great documentary, and would you just listen to that Stelling howl !

Thanks so much for posting

Oddly enough, I am the person sitting next to Geoff's wife, Sherry, at their camper when Larry Wallace comes to pick up his new banjo that day.

I remember when this part of the documentary was done, it was at the Christopher Run Campground bluegrass festival in Mineral, VA in June 1996.

Thanks for posting the videos.

Excellent stuff! I enjoyed the whole thing. But, man, it put my extremely limited German to a test. ;-)

My German isn't just extremely limited - it's nonexistent; however, it did sound like the speaker was saying that Geoff Stelling is to the banjo as Les Paul is to the guitar (or something along those lines !)

He says something like: Regarding quality and price, Geoff Stelling is to the banjo what Les Paul is to the guitar. I find that kind of unfair. Les Pauls are not half the instruments IMO. Just better known.
Wonderful to see the documentary by the way. Thanks for posting! I guess I could dust off my high shcool German and do a quick translation at some point if it would be of interest.
