Well I joined for the simple reason that I own a Red Fox that hasn't been out of its case in over 5 yrs. It's not that it's a bad banjo, it's mainly because it weighs so much more than my old TB-1 conversion that I use everyday. Maybe 4# more. I need to bring it into the daylight again and hopefully this group will inspire me to do so. For my audiences, if it's round, sounds like, looks like and has 5 strings like a banjo, then it must be a banjo so the kind of banjo I play has little to do with audience appoval. I can't say wheather or not it is superior to any other high end banjos I own altho' its fit and finish are truly remarkable. Another downside to Stellings is they are not a tinkerers instrument with the exception of strings, head and bridge alterations. That said, I don't believe changing tonerings or rims would do much to improve their tonal qualities. For a really great banjo right out of the shop you can't go wrong with a Stelling.
