The tuner gear ratio on my '88 Masterpiece is 3.5:1 (fifth string tuner is 8:1). That seems really low, and the instrument is indeed a bit "touchy" to tune. Do all Stellings use this gear ratio?

	Norand says: 6/6/2011 11:53:13 AM Hi Dennis The gearing on my 80 SS is somewhere between 3.5 and 4:1 i think. It has 5-star pegs on the headstock and possibly something else on the 5th string...? (the hole in the tuner button is larger than in thoose on the peghead)
	Geoff Stelling says: 6/8/2011 7:01:20 AM Hi guys, The offset Schaller tuners with the Stelling logo stamped on the back that were used on the banjos in the 1982 to sometime in the '90's had a 3.5:1 ratio. The earlier banjos used 5-Star 4:1 planet pegs, with Kroll 5th pegs which were 9:1. When Kroll went out of business, Schaller 5ths were used, which I think are 8:1. The current Schaller planets I think are 4:1 also. At times when we ran out of Schallers, Stew-Mac Waverly tuners were used. Geoff
	dpskala says: 6/8/2011 10:06:52 AM 4:1 seems to be the most common ratio, based on replies in the setup forum, but one fellow reported 2:1. Those must be a real bear to tune! The original 5th string tuner on my old Vega was 1:1. Very touchy.
