Hardly no dealers in Canada

From RB5 on 5/15/2011 1:49:02 PM

I have always wanted to own a brand new Stelling but unfortunately the only dealer in Canada is on the east coast and I think there is one on the west coast which leaves all of the center of our vast country with no dealers. I always like to try an instrument before purchasing one and wonder why Geoff has not gotten any dealers in the bigger cities such as Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg,  Calgary and Vancouver. I am in Toronto frequently and visit the Twelfth Fret store often  and they carry Deering, Huber, Gibson, Wildwood, Dobro, National. Collins, Martin and all the top brands in musical instruments but no Stellings. This makes me sad for I have dreamed of owning a Stelling all the way back when I first started learning how to play from my Larry McNeely's banjo lessons 101 which featured the Stelling catalog at the back of the lesson book. It gave me the incentive to keep plugging away away at it in hopes to one day be good enough to buy a Stelling. Please Geoff if you read this try to understand how we Canadians feel about being left out of the great Stelling experience. The only joy I can have is being a member of the Stelling group here on the hangout and probably the only member without a Stelling to boast about. It's just not fair!!!!! RB5.

RB5,
I sense your despair and can only say that I've offered dealerships to many Canadian music stores to no avail. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. I've made calls to the 12th Fret and the owner was not available. No one seemed too eager to help me concerning a Stelling dealership, so I figured they were not interested. I'll call again and see what I can do. Several dealerships in Canada have been successful and then folded. Their excuse is that my banjos are too expensive. I beg to differ, because almost all American banjos are in the same price range. Call 12th Fret and demand that they carry Stellings. I'll do what I can from here.

Geoff I would really appreciate if you could talk to the Twelfth Fret into trying some of your Stelling banjo's to sell. It would give us the opportunity to try them out and compare the different models in your line of banjo's so we can buy the model we love the most. I have only tried a older second hand I think an early 80's Stelling which I did not mind but I would love to hear and play one with the Tony Pass rim in it. I am sure that would be the sound I am looking for. I will be talking to Grant in the next week or so in hopes that he will be picking up the Stelling line.

Way down here in Australia there's hardly any banjos for sale of any variety so I had to trust everything I had read about Stelling and order one, sight unseen (unplayed) I was not disappointed. Stellings are beautiful instruments in sound, feel, aura, tone, etc, etc.

Get a Stelling. There isn't another banjo I'd rather play.

Thanks Grum and Zach,
RB5, I called 12th Fret and got an answering machine. They are apparently having phone problems. I left a message. Hope Grant calls me back.

Good man. I hope he calls you back too. They are very reputable and I would say the best acoustic musical store in all of Canada and I know Grant will call you back.
