Keith D Tuners

From Grum on 5/11/2011 12:45:18 AM

Or should that be "detuners"? How many of you have Keith style D tuners on your Stellings? I'd like to get some but feel like I'd be committing some sort of sacrilege. If a Stelling was supposed to have Keith tuners on it I guess Geoff would sell them like that. Thoughts?

If Stelling banjos were *not* supposed to have Keith tuners, Geoff would not offer them as accessories on his website. They are no more sacrilegious than using different strings, bridge, strap, etc. You pays your money and you get the sound you want. Painting a Stelling purple, putting political stickers all over it -- that would be sacrilegious.

Personally, I like the sound of them, but for the little that you actually use them, I don't think it's worth spending the money on them. On the other hand, my gold armrest is slightly worn in the middle, and I *am* spending the money to replate it. Different strokes for different folks. If Keith tuners will make you a happy banjo boy, go for them - you will still be eligible for angel wings.

I recently put Keith tuners on mine - no problem. Although as mentioned above, I do not use them a great deal.

I have had Keith tuners on my Stelling Redfox for several years and enjoy using them. Besides the usual "tuner" tunes like Home Sweet Home, Bending The Strings, and Earl's Breakdown I like to use them to quickly tune into D tuning. I enjoy playing songs such as Turkey Knob, Banjo Riff, Choking The Strings etc. which I can quickly turn to D tuning for a change of pace when jamming with friends. I love them on my Stelling and have never felt "sacrilegious" one time. Try 'em' you'll like 'em!

I've installed them on my Golden Cross and love them! Only suggestion is that you send them to Bill Keith with the original Stelling buttons; so he can custom fit them to the Keith spindles. This way, all of the buttons will match (again). Call or e-mail Bill at Beacon Banjo Co. and he can give you the details.

Do they fit the holes of the original tuners?
I have a Korean banjo that I put shallers on, and it took some patience and sand paper to fit them in. Wouldn't do that to the Steling.
