If there is no original purchasing invoice...

From Milli2 on 8/25/2017 3:20:10 PM

...is there still a way to tell the age of a Stelling Bell Flower?

I have put my Bell Flower up for sale, and received reactions from interested people. I bought it here through the Banjo Hangout 5 years ago, and was told at that time it was 3 years old. Now people ask me how old it is and I have no proof of when it was bought. It came from Janet Davis.

Is there a way to tell the year it was made without taking it apart? It does have the Tony Pass Old Wood rim.

Thank you for any help in advance!

Geoff has serial numbers for every one made. That's your best bet.

Ybanjo is right. Each banjo has a serial number inside the rim. Years ago, I found a serial by year listing online, I think it was on the Stelling website. I told me what year my 67 of 100 Masterpiece was born. Youngest mistress I ever had.

Mine is very old. The label inside the pot says Starflower s/n 483 July 22 1977 Is that info no longer on the label on modern banjo's?

The serial number is stamped on the left side of the rim below the centermost flange hole. You can see it if you tilt the banjo to about a 45 degree angle so you can see into the rim side about two holes in front of the arm rest. If you can't decipher the number, you'll have to remove the resonator which requires removing the four thumb screws that hold it on. Once you know the serial number go to our chronology listing on the Stellingbanjo.com website.

Dear Mr. Stelling, Thank you very much, that was a lot easier than I thought it would be!
