I thought I would post just to make you feel better. I just got my banjo a week and a half ago. You'll always be ahead of me. Maybe we could get together via phone and play something simple slow and haltingly. :)

Just thinking lm that what you suggested is actually a really good idea. You could set up a vidcall on SKYPE and play a session with another group member and see each other at the same time.

Lol. I've been trying to even post a pic on here, but it posts them REALLY LARGE for some reason so it looks like I am trying to dominate every conversation. I'll work on the pic thing this weekend.
But I love the skype idea. Love it. I would love to be able to talk to and see another banjo person. Maybe I could learn something rather than just floundering on whatever works for me.

The skype idea sounds like a super good idea and yes i have the free version of skype and use so if you want to learn how to play that banjo quickly and "EASY" I can skype ya and show ya how to do short chords and make a song playable . I have about 175 songs that are broke down with chord changes highlighted above the words in the songs where the chord changes occur and i can just e-mail ya a few songs at a time and ya just print em out . I can play songs for ya on skype so you know how they sound .Like my version of "cotton eyed joe" does'nt sound like (rednix) version and more story than repeated short verses . I have more than one version of that though . I usally start some one out just strumming and doing chord changes and humming . Then add words and do awhile . Then when your ready you can do to rolls .Start that out at 4 beats per measure and will jump to 8 beats per measure when ya get a grab and comfort doing . I will show you all versions and i even do a little thumb pic strum sometimes while i'm pick'in at the same time so sound very cool and full . Let me know if ya want to do this and after monday is good here for me to have time . I will do alot to help others learn because i did'nt have really any banjo people around to help me so vowed to do what i can to help others learn .

And remember any sounds i can do with my banjo your banjo can do too with time .

Keep an eye out for e-mails of a couple charts i will send you like short chord chart ,banjo keys chart and will send ya a song or two so you can try this all out . Try playing by strumming first using short chords and chords above words highlighted . Also e-mail me back what some of your favorite bluegrass songs are so i can fix ya up with them chord changes style .This will help tons in getting coordination and dexterity on playing quickly and will make playing rolls easier to put to music a little down the road and this offer is open for anyone wanting to try this way of doing . Just let me know . Ok going to try to send ya some e-mails and will post if i have a problem doing .

Glad you guys like the Skype idea. It could work really well and there is no charge over the net. I think that Shelly is in a different time zone from me but eventually we could set up a jam. Not sure if you can do conference calls on Skype but it would be awesome to get two or three players together to try it our. My time zone is Eastern Standard.

Hello signed up for this group about a month ago and just found it again.
Anyone here using the tenor Banjo? I think I have worn the first book out and still don't know what the heck I am doing. Although I can pick out the tabs sometimes and it almost sounds like the song. Do folks that play tenor banjo do rolls and stuff.

I don't think they do Lamylouy. As far as I know the tenor is mostly used in Traditional Irish music. Any Irish bands I've seen use one and the player is usually picking out the melody. Check out 'the Dubliners' on Utube, particularly the song 'Rocky Road to Dublin'.

It will be sometime in january when i get my own computer back but shelly will send you some more songs like sunny side of life song ect when i can scan the songs to send . The whole idea of doing this to strumming is so you can play with eyes closed or totally dark room and beable to play songs and your fingers are going to know wher to go . When you start adding finger roll patterns to songs the battle of finding chords won't be there and after a short while you will be able to play roll patterns and chords in the dark because the fingers will know wher to go and playing standing up won't be about anything either then . Shelly will also send you some neat little cabin songs that are slow and funny and a couple songs which are in the KEY of D so you can start learning playing in that key which will just be switching the c chord for the a new a chord .
