Check to make sure the fifth string is tucked behind and under the little pip that sticks up right behind the fret.

That is my first best guess which I learned the hard way.

Let us know!

When this happens I fix it by putting a very small drop of Super glue in the pip slot (i.e., where the string runs through). You don't need any more glue than will fit on the head of a pin. In fact, I've found that dipping a straight pin in a drop of super glue and then applying the drop to the slot works best. Be sure to mask off the area around the pip so it doesn't get on the fingerboard. Hope this helps. Kim

Make sure your bridge slots are filed correctly, but most of the time when they are not it will sound thuddy. make sure your fifth string is not touching the fret in front, the fifth string should rest in the groove of the bone insert and be above the fret. Check your fret board with a straight edge. Check your frets going up the neck by noting the string at each fret to see if they all sound clear or if any are buzzing.
