I never did use tab unless i changed it.Most of the time it was useless.Myself like a big part of the folks  here ,i used the original slowdowner 33 slowed to 16 on the  turntable. This tascam rig i have now will speed it up slow it down or put the capo on the cd instead of the banjo. You can burn those old earl albums to cd and bring them down off of that you know what g-sharp.I do save myself sometime using sheetmusic and chord books, but this involves a lot of earwork,to get it right ---over and out Tom

Sheet music!!! (Gasp)..LOL Tom, I wish people today had it like we did. So much ear training went into this way of having to ID the notes, putting them into phrases ,by listenin to what roll configs were possible. The constant tuning DOWN and UP made you VERY profient in tuning. So no need for a tuner.Im so glad I became a player BC (before computers..LOL)

I confess...I learnt Cripple Creek and FoggyMtn Brkdn from 'tab'....but honest, they were the only ones... :-0 and that was a 100years ago and I forgot what the 'tabs' look like...LOL I still don't read music!!

I just read it to get the basic it saves buying the record and then having to figure out the chords ,for me on songs with a lot of chords that can be a bear,i am not speaking ofthe usual 3 and 4 chord. For example i worked out georgia,i would have never got them all right with my tin ear.Fiddle tunes i usually do by ear and try to imitate the rendition that got me going in the first place,Banjo music and fiddle tunes on paper are pretty much bland .I wish i could play as good as a lot of famous non-readers.
