From Boadicea on 11/24/2017 2:34:04 AM

How did you learn to hear chord changes at the beginning?

How did you learn to hear the melody at the beginning?

What did you listen to to assist your learning to hear more in the music?

Kate: Learn the scale notes on the banjo: do. re, mi ect. for the key of g. Spend time picking out just the melody notes of songs you hear and like. Then it is just a matter of incorporating those notes into rolls and away you go. But you got to get where you can pick out those melody notes with your fingers like you can whistle or hum them. Have fun.Enjoy the process.

Chord changes you learn by trial and error. just chord a long with songs and when it does not sound right try something else. Also remember that 95% of the time, songs will start on a I chord and its last 2 chords will be V and then I.

Kate: re chords I also should have said that most bluegrass songs are made of I, IV, & V chords.
