Just got My New 12" Walnut Possum

From doublearon77 on 6/5/2015 6:27:35 PM

USPS just arrived today with my Pisgah. Man what a lovely sounding banjo!! I was curious about what bridges you all have tried on your possums. Also do you know if these are medium strings from the factory.

Thanks, Aaron

I use a Sampson walnut on my Possum. Little different but I like the deep sound. Strings? Don't know what came on it as it was used.

When I get my Pisgah a few months ago the strings were D'addario mediums, according to Patrick. The Moon bridge I have on now sounds fine and looks cool, but the tone of the banjo with the stock bridge really did not need improvement IMO.

I use a sampson as well on my possum. I have tried quite a few bridges. Most of the time they don't sound any better than the stock bridge. The I have two different sampsons each of which add a very small amount of bass resonance. IT all depends on what kind of tone you're looking for though. I have a heavy moon bridge which makes the banjo sound too bright and thin for my taste. You're good off just staying with the stock bridge unless you want a new one for aesthetic value.

Thanks everybody. I put a Bart mystery wood bridge on mine and love the tone. I might try a Sampson though. You are correct about the stock on though, action was just a little high for my taste.

I also have the Veerman mystery wood bridge. Love it.
