Bridge for new Possum?

From crmdgn on 1/18/2015 4:49:55 AM

I just bought a Possum and am thinking about trying a new bridge on it. Possum-players, which bridges should I consider, and what do you like about them? Lay it on me.

I like moon bridges. there are many options of bridges and they are cheap enough to experiment with. I would suggest trying several and keeping them in your case for different settings and playing styles. I recommend shopping at Elderly for their big selection.

FQMS has a new series of Maple Roasted bridges they are putting out...10$ a piece. I have one on order and will keep you posted. For now I have a Gary Sosebee bridge on , definetly added a bit of volume and more sustain/chime and "cluckability",(is that a word), to my Possum. Amazing how much diff a bridge can make. Iv'e always liked the Sosebee bridges, 14$ at Elderly.

I've tried several bridges on my 11' Possum, and the one that I (really) loved best is Bart Veerman's clawhammer bridge (mystery wood, no topping). It gives more power to the banjo while keeping the tone quite soft and it adds a lot of pop to it. I liked it so much that I ordered one for My Ramsey Student too. And Bart is a very nice guy, answered all my questions and sent the bridge really fast too.

@Kev1 are you using steel or nylgut strings?

Well First Quality spaced on my order and I canceled it as I like the Sosebee bridge so well. I went down from the stock 11/16 my banjo came with to a .065...better playability up the neck, but a slight wolf tone/buzz on the 5th string. I may go back to an 11/16.

I use steel strings, the ones that came with the banjo.
