Bracket wrench for new brass hardware?

From pastorharry on 1/10/2015 2:53:42 PM

Have any of you found a successful bracket wrench for the new Balsam banjo works brass 5/16th closed end nuts? Patrick told me the ones from stewmac might be too tight, Ace hardware's one is too shallow....help!

Maybe you could email Balsam Banjo Works and ask them what they use?

Ok, skip that. I see from the interweb that Balsam Banjo Works is Patrick's company. Maybe try this wrench from Grover?

Thanks, I ordered one from First Quality, I'll report if it works.

The 5/16 head tightening tool bought from the music store was not deep enough. The Craftsman 5/16 2" long socket fits fine.

I really hope balsam and pisgah get together and develop a key specifically for these and include them with each banjo, this having to search for something that works is a bit rinky dink. Has anyone tried the tool available from Elderly with 3 sockets in one tool? elderly.com/accessories/items/BTW.htm

The wrenches from stew Mac and first quality I've noticed are not consistant. They also sometimes have burs on the inside of the wrench which can be filed or reemed out. We are in the process of developing a hex wrench which will be available this year.

You can buy an inexpensive, brand "X" quarter inch drive, 5/16" deep socket and use it with a 1/4" drive screw driver type handle. Works great! I bought an entire set of 1/4" drive, deep sockets at a local discount warehouse type store for under ten bucks.
