You guys might find interesting: You mentioned "The Gambia" and "The Akonting"...my parents and little sister lived and worked in The Gambia in the 90's while I was in college. My dad got hired as a pilot with the nat'l airline of Gambia and they lived there a few years. They brought back a mini banjo and still have it at their house.
P.S. - I just linked this video through to the group, everybody can get to see and hear you guys and get some views of the shop....and also see and hear how you guys are not only craftsmen but dang good musicians too!

Some might say "Oh well Pisgah Banjos" are factory produced but its def not in the sense of like a huge manufacturing scale like you get with Asian banjos or other companies like "Deering" for example. There is still a huge attention to detail and design that goes into these banjos. How many asian banjos offer one a choice between three different tonewoods in any of their models? Maybe Patrick and Topher dont offer 100 different custom options but most of the major ones and most popular ones are covered like 11/12" rims, traditional peghead design, "Dobson Heels" Whyte lady tone rings, Dobson tone rings wooden and others...thats alot of ground covered right there so there is still alot of features that one can have with a Pisgah banjo. Having said that I think its a great balance from a production/marketing and traditional appalachian perspective. These banjos are not "starter" banjos at all...Pisgah banjos are 100% the real deal and would be popular with the professional and collector/casual picker alike.
