Will be a week tomorrow!

From BillSchmelzer on 1/29/2013 8:08:49 AM

My Pisgah Possum Maple/Cherry "12 arrived last Wednesday, previously owned by a great guy on BHO who had the original neck changed out for narrower one. It is the same width as neck on my Goodtime, so it works  fine for me.  Action is a little higher than the Goodtime, but I don't want to change anything yet and I am  getting used to it.  A friend who is a professional musician tells me lower action is good, as  long as the strings don't buzz. And they don't.

I was very interested in another banjo on BHO and decided against it when faced with a 'kitchen appliance emergency", but when I saw this one in the classifieds, I fell in love and, like the man in the Bible, "sold all that I had to buy the pearl of great value". Glad I did, for sure!  This is a beautiful sounding, beautiful looking, easy playing, light banjo!

Someone asked to see a photo of the narrower neck, and I will try to post and link a few.

Just posted a few photos on my homepage if anyone is interested; haven't figured out how to get them here yet.

Bill I just posted your photos here for everyone in the group to see. Its a really nice banjo...it struck me as being an 11" as opposed to a 12" rim though. It would be interesting to know why the original owner decided to swap out a thinner Pisgah neck than the usual fingerboard width of their necks. It still looks a tad wider than the Goodtime though.

By crackie, you are right! with more careful measurement, the Possum is about 1/16 wider at the nut, 1 1/4" vs. 1 3/16' but both are 1 5/8" at the 5th fret. How wide is the wider Pisgah neck?
The previous owner told me he was used to a narrower neck and preferred it. I think he said he plays a Vega...

Interesting...Most folks go for the wider necks and also the shorter 25.5" scale as well....seems to be the rage. I am sure Patrick and Topher would make a neck for A client with those specifications if one asked.
