About Pete

From darwinyarwin on 1/28/2014 1:01:07 PM

I've been sitting here thinking. I want to paint something on my LN banjo head in tribute to him. I think it would be gratuitous to paint his famous aphorism around the edge, but I think think we should all paint something, It'd be nice if it became a custom and we all had it on our banjos. I first thought of just painting "Pete" on there, or "What Pete said" or "What Pete Sang." Haven't come up with just the right few words yet. Any others have ideas?

(I posted this on a forum thread, too)

Nice idea. I have one of the heads Deleting made for him in my music room. It was never on one of his banjos but I love it just the same.

Maybe "Pete Seeger: he started it all" or "Pete Seeger (1919-2014)

A outline of the Clearwater perhaps?

How about something like: "For Pete's sake, give a thought for ________!" Insert your favorite cause, like your neighbor, the poor, the middle class, or whatever.

I li(ke the Clearwater idea, too. Perhaps a symbol is a good ides, from another thread the idea came of a flower -- if we all had flowers ....

I have a friend that sailed on the Woody Guthrie and did an outline of it on a t-shirt for the yacht club where the Woody was docked. Or maybe it was the Woody outlined by the Clearwater for that t-shirt. Anyway, I think I'm gonna see if I can hire him to do that logo on my Long Necks.

I have a resonator on my long neck with a picture of Pete on it when he was young and the logo. He autographed it for me. Wish I knew how to post a picture.

Just uploaded it to my page and realized it was already there. Now it's there twice

Nice touch. Too bad the graphics weren't transfered to a head.

I like this idea a lot
In thinking about it
and looking for short quotations
I came across these two editorial cartoons

Joe Heller's is fairly simple

but I really like this one too

media.charlotteobserver.com/sm...a.138.jpg

I figure I could print one off and laminate it
for the outside of the banjo case
Don't know if that violates copyright or not

According to Helix this is one of Pete's quotes ...
"Keep Bringing People Together"
I may use it on my long neck ...

Scott may have hit on the answer. It's not all that important that we all have the same exact thing on our banjo, is it? What's important is that we establish the custom that *something* that reminds us of Pete goes on all our banjo heads. That seems more in the inclusive attitude Pete Seeger taught us. I'm gonna think this over some more ....

I'm new in this forum and a begginer ln banjo player. It was Pete's music and personality what made me pick up the banjo in the first place. I love this idea as well, and I think I will go with the outline of the Clearwater. Thanks for starting this, and here's to all Longnecks honoring his life.... Will post a picture once I have it done.

Correct, we asked Pete if we could use his quote "Keep Bringing People Together" on the back of our tour T-shirts in Germany in 2003.

An expanding universe of decreasing radius. If there's an earthquake, listen for my banjo, we won't leave anyone or little living thing behind.

"The seagulls wheel, they turn and dive.
The Mountain stand beside the Sea.
This simple world goes round and round
And all for them and you and me."

Get in there and make it count, you came to play, then play we shall.
