Silvertone Long Neck on eBay

From darwinyarwin on 10/6/2013 6:59:07 PM

This as about as inexpensive a long neck as you will find, I think. Not the best quality; but for those of you wanting to "try out" a long neck this is a good opportunity for a vintage folk-era plunker. (I'd  bid on it but ... the wife ... you know.)    http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-5-STRING-SILVERTONE-BANJO-/390671759616?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5af5d9f900

More than likely a Harmony since Sears owned the brand around the time these were made. Yes, it's a cheapie. But not just for beginners. There are those old folks (like me) who no longer can heft a long neck Tubaphone. Stick one of those Myer's pickup on it and you have enough loud for Yankee Stadium.

I agree, Wes. Those old Kay/Harmony/Silvertones sound alot better that some folks think they would. And they're bulletproof. ;)

I love the chrome plated Bakelite pots, and the poplar necks usually stay very straight.

Bakelite?! Great. That'll go great with my 1950 crystal set earphones and the handle on my pre war percolator! <-)

That's my plan... to a point. If it goes too high, nah. I just haven't yet figured out what "too high" would be. The listing says "for parts or repair" or somesuch. The only thing I see wrong is the lack of a bridge. I've written to the seller asking what specifically he means.
