What is your dream long neck banjo?

From ObsidianSpike on 12/20/2012 7:17:27 PM

Is there a long neck out there, new or vintage that you're lusting after? Or do you already have the banjo of your dreams? For me it's an OME Grand Artist Hummingbird Long Neck... that one's a long ways away though.

Sounds like a TuBaPhone, weighs like a Goodtime, looks like a B&D, plays like a Paramount, costs like a wall hanger. Am I asking too much? :-)

I own my dream...my Bob Gibson tribute Vega long neck: A 1924-1925 Tubaphone pot with a 1962 Folklore neck that Dan Pennington smoothed out, added inlays and ebony fretboard. Has an old Vega Vox tailpiece as Bob G and Erik Darling used in their pre-Seeger model Vega long necks. What can I say? It plays and sounds like buttah...

Do we only get ONE?!

One that I'd like is way too costly for my coin purse -- The Deering/Vega Tom Dooley banjo. As far as I know, there have only been 2 made, both are owned by friends of mine, and I've played one of them a time or two. Beautiful sound, beautiful artwork, excellent playability...what more can I say?

A Wildwood longneck banjo is another one on my short list. I've encountered only one such longneck...it had a wonderful sound and looked great, and the owner told me that it was the best playing banjo he'd ever come across.

Back to reality. My Goldtone OT-800 LN is really a stellar banjo, and I'm happy with it. BUT...if I ever win the lottery....

I have it...it's the one in my profile pic. I made the neck as a tribute to Pete Seeger on his 90th birthday, and it's on a 20's Tubaphone pot. It's a replica of his legendary lignum vitae that Pete has played for close to 60 years.

My '65 Ode longneck is great. I REALLY wish I could find my stolen Iida longneck though!
