Seeger banjo head

From vega long neck on 5/21/2012 9:06:14 AM

Talk about being at the right place at the right time......

Two weekends ago I went to a 2 1/2 day music academy in N. Wilkesboro, NC that was a wonderful experience all by itself (see my self serving blog on that one !) Saturday evening, after class and before dinner, I was approached by an instructor who offered me an un-used head by Deering that is one of two made. The other is the one on Pete Seeger's banjo with the circular "This machine surrounds hate and forces it to surrender". These two heads are different from the ones Deering now sells because the thicker head; Pete's choice, I'm told.

I've given some thought to mounting it but figure that's just a trifle over the top. I think it looks just BEAUTIFUL on the wall in my music room!

OK, I'll try that tonight. I'm a bit of a tech nerd when I go beyond email but I'm always trying and amusing the grand kids.

I thought long and hard about buying one of the new ones...and probably would have except for two things: 1) The "Pete" head that he used for so long and was almost auctioned and is supposedly now in the R&R Hall of Fame was a (Waverly) Fyberskyn...while the Deering version is regular plastic. 2) The Deering logo exposed was a big deal breaker...I usually put logos under my tailpiece. I guess were I a lefty I might have been less dissuaded!

The one I have will put the Deering logo under the tailpiece in order to read the whole script. I sure that the Deering ad also says that for the placement.
The difference between the Waverly and the current is probably why Deering made the two on a different material. Pete must have thought it was OK, he approved and kept one.
Whatever, I like the head for the sentimentality of Pete's influence on me and also because of who gave it to me.

Congradulations! And yes, a picture would be nice!

HA! Third try but I did get 3 pictures of the
"Seeger" banjo head on my homepage. It just might stay on the wall in my music room for awhile.

If I ever got an old wall hanger long neck, I'd have that head on it for sure...and let the logo stare at the underside of the t/p...got some Seeger memrobilia myself

Now that is cool...yours has the Deering logo on the TP side rather than the neck side. The one shown on their site is the other way around. VERY nice!

I have it hanging on the wall. Makes a nice conversation piece. Viva Pete!
