Oh, my aching back! I know there are many who in this forum that understand that cry. So, has anyone here tried the Deering/Vega White Oak longneck? If so, how do you like it,. And why?

Let me be more specific:

--does it hurt your shoulders even when playing seated?

--Does it really sound like it has a tone ring?

--Is it worth the big bucks they ask for it?

I have some oak guitars. They are ancient and still play fine. But according to the botony crowd, oak may be lively but it easily becomes brittle.

	wbheilmann says: 2/18/2020 3:11:45 PM I have one of the first White Oaks with a standard neck and a 12" pot, and a friend of mine has the long neck version. They both sound great, and yes, they really give out plenty of volume as if they had tone rings. My White Oak weighs in at about half of what my Gold Tone longneck weighs. The D/V White Oaks are fine banjos, and are worth the money (IMO). I cannot speak to oak being brittle, but like any other wooden instrument, if you keep it properly humidified, you should not have any problems.

It's difficult to say this on the long neck forum but my favorite banjo is a Gibson RB250 with an arch top ring. The neck is just perfect for me. The thing weighs a ton but is lively like no other I'v ever played, The Deering White Lotus sounds perfect to me. But I fit another banjo into the basement my wife will kill me. But oh, my do I long for one of those Deerings!
