I like long necks. My voice is a little lower and that makes a long neck a good fit. I have a Deering Vega long neck and Tom Nechville has agreed to make me an extended neck for my Athena. So, here is my question: I would like to try an original Vega Long Neck also. I see a few for sale occasionally. However, I have noticed a few reviews of the original Vega that state that the original Vega quality was questionable. If anyone knows whether or not that was the case, I would like to know what the problems were.

	wesrichards says: 6/24/2019 2:46:59 PM I have always found the Vega Pete Seeger hard to play. That's not a criticism. Some are marvelous. But quality control at Vega in the 60s was sometimes not what it should be. That's the bad news. The good news is most faults can be corrected. Deering makes a tubaphone long neck. Pricy. Gold Tone sells several varieties. I would consider all of them you can find before you make a purchase. A lot depends on what you plan to do with it?

Those owners of the co-rod, later models are in love with theirs. Both have advantages- heel/pot contact or total adjustment for neck angle. I have both models and have a very difficult hearing a difference in the sound, all other factors being equal-head tension, bridge weight, tailpiece, etc., etc. As to a PS-5 being hard to play, I don't agree. One must deal with length in the open position and, more, the balance of a Tub-A-Phone long neck. Pete Seeger put that big screw hook for his strap half way up the neck for good reason. There are better ways to solve that problem. If you are close to Tucson, come by and play some Vega PS-5s. Paul
