Go for it - your wife will probably beat you to death for buying it anyway so you might as well enjoy life if however brief.

Ooooh! That's pretty. Same price as a used Prius and and no replaceable batteries. Which is more fun and worth more 10 years from now? PB

This old and this beautiful? There has to be a story that goes with it. Maybe the Gryphon people know it. Five grand was almost two year's salary for me in 1961/2.

Oh, no! I would never spend that kind of money on a long neck. Or any banjo for that matter. Plus, I'm too old.

There's a 61 at Intermountain in SLC at about half that price.

The interesting thing is the really different thing is the dowel stick - the others mentioned (tuners, holes in the tone ring) are just cosmetic changes!! Give them a few months and offer $3k cash if you really want it.

Oh my Gawd...what a lovely Seeger!!! The price is a bit steep, but if you want a 28-bracket with a wooden dowel, this might be the one! About a year ago ago, I found mine ...SN 100184 and it came with a factory installed resonator and a custom dark finish! Boy does it ring!! Please let us know what you decide!!!

I have no affiliation with Intermountain banjo in SLC other than buying a few banjos from Leo but if you are looking for a Seeger, he has 4 and they are all very nice...3 Vega's and a
Deering/Martin commemorative...all way less than the beauty Gryphon is selling...a 61 dowel stick and 2 minty corr-rod models.

I've been drooling over those Seegers for months now. Unfortunately I have a Deering-Vega Pete Seeger Long Neck that a purchased a couple of years ago. Not sure how it compares with an early '60's Vega like the ones Leo has, but it's a good banjo for me. But trust me, if I didn't have the Deering-Vega one of those three original Vegas would be in my possession!

It's a 24 bracket, not 28...but still nice. I have an identical banjo, albeit in rougher condition...but the price was right, it was given to me !
