My Buckbee head stock is too thick for Grover 25B tuning pegs. I'd like to retrofit something with a little more stability than the Ivoroid friction pegs I have now. Using gut strings, but tuning is a problem for me as a beginner. Any suggestions?

	Nymphadora says: 1/8/2020 9:53:08 AM Yes, I may be able to help. I'm a luthier and have worked a lot on the friction type pegs on banjos, ukes, and violins. I was also a part time dancer and we used crushed violin rosin to rub dance shoes, and the floor with. I began crushing violin rosin into powder inside a baggie and used a hammer. Simply pull out the pegs, one at a time because they are supposed to be matched to the hole. Put the peg in the rosin and twist it to coat the shaft, not the part you hold. Reinstall it and it will stop slipping for a very long time. With these type of pegs, it may help if you slightly pull it out as you tune and then push it back in when your done. It will be tight but can be turned to final pitch. You don't have to buy expensive imported stuff...the cheapest will do. Nyms
