Can I Reverse the Strings on a Kala Ka-C ??

From Winnieff on 6/8/2014 10:08:01 AM

I'm looking to purchase a Kala Ka-C as a first uke and I also play a lefty banjo. If I get a standard right handed  Kala Ka-c  I would like to learn how to play it right handed even though I'm a dominant lefty. If I found it too difficult to play it right handed could I just reverse the strings and learn to play it left handed ?? I've read different things that says yes; just reverse the strings and others say no; you have to purchase a left handed uke if you intend to play left handed.

Also is a Kala Ka-c a good choice? I like the idea of the Concert style which has a bit more spacing between the strings.

Thanks for any input. Andy

Swap the strings - it'll be fine.

If you already play banjo left handed I think you'd be making thing difficult swapping fretting hands between instruments.

No problem switching. You don't even need a new nut and saddle.
I own a Ka-KC. Not sure of the difference between the Ka-C and the Ka-KC, but I'm happy with my Kala.

I have a few older banjo ukes:
A May Belle by Slingerland with a resonator. This is a loud banjolele.
A no name with a wooden pot and skin head that is being repaired and I haven't had a chance to play yet.
A Banjo-ette with a metal pot that is having a new neck built.
My most used is an S.S.Stewart tenor banjo with a short neck that I have tuned gCEA with a capo on the 2nd fret and Nylgut strings.

Sorry, I posted that last comment in the wrong place and there doesn't seem to be a way of erasing it.

yes, but you might have to change the nut grooves. but try it any way.
