Hi, to everyone,,,, I have played guitar and ukulele, on and off, since I was about 12, I made two big mistakes, with both. I never learned to read music, or tab, and never practiced any melody type solo playing. I just practiced chords, to back myself singing. Now I have been looking up some 1920's type songs, on youtube, to sing with my uke. But having watched banjo players playing the melody chord playing, I would love to do this. I don't know how to work out the melody playing, I do have a good knowledge of chords, has anyone got suggestions or hints and tips. anything greatfully recieved . Thanks for a great site ,Pete.

	Grumpy1 says: 11/29/2011 9:13:06 PM I have the same problem as you. However, I can usually somewhat pick out the melody by ear. I play the chord and pick the melody between chord changes. I think that over time your brain learns where appropriate sounds are and tells your fingers where to go. Don't know how else to describe it. Picking 3 finger, ala guitar, seems to help a lot. Welcome aboard.
