How do I make a flesh hoop, and what do I use.

go to ace hardware, get a roll of galvanized wire (like chain link wire) it is already rolled. simplest way cut off what you need and put it around your pot.

There are lots of different materials and methods that work fine. The galvanized wire idea is one ... maybe other folks will add to the list.
I've also heard mention of using welding rod, and the aluminum wire rods sold to hang suspended ceilings.
I use a harbor freight ring roller to form 1/8" square brass bar stock that I buy in bulk from an online metal materials supply house.

I like square bar stock because banjo makers like Bacon & Gibson used them. I've found some (on old Bacon banjos) that were perfectly rolled, brazed, and even nickel plated. How is that for attention to detail?
The "stated" advantage is that the corners of the square rod help prevent the hide slipping. I'm not sure how critical that really is (you see plenty of old round flesh hoops that work just fine).
I bought the roller and found a source for the stock so I can make them the old way. I can sell a rolled hoop for $10 plus postage. I usually supply them rolled - but not cut and completely finished. That way you can match the size to your tension hoop & rim and finish it for a good fit. Ideally it should be slightly smaller than the outside diamater of your hoop.
I think Christine Miller may be able to supply some sizes of finished hoops (similar to what her late father Bill did - banjoseen.com)
Before I bought the roller, a local friend had some made at a nearby metal shop. I don't know what they charged. That might be an option for you too.

I used a coat hanger, and I sanded the ends so there would be no sharp edges or burrs. It did overlap about 1/4 inch, and I didn't take the time to undo it and trim 1/4 inch from the hoop, but so far so good. The flesh hoop may be too long or too short from one hide to another because of the different thickness of the skin.
