Has anyone tried a hide head on a piccolo banjo? Maybe the better question is, does anyone have experience/opinions about how hide behaves on an 8" rim?

	jbalch says: 5/5/2011 7:11:53 PM I think hide is a great choice on a small rim. I think having a smaller surface makes any small changes due to himidity less noticeable.

	vintagewells says: 5/7/2011 3:35:31 PM I could put that split head on the 8" banjer I have and let you know. Actually, it started out with a crude hide head and sounded good, so I think it would be fine.

	vintagewells says: 5/10/2011 8:44:51 AM I mounted the split hide on the 8" banjo and it sounds great. of course with the humidity under 5% at best it is tight as a bluegrass banjo! It is a thin goatskin. I think a thicker calfskin would give a mellower sound. I have to say that this is one of the loudest banjos I have. Always has been.
