I recently purchased a Bob Thornburg that I love to death (may be my favorite banjo in my collection). However, kind of concerned about some browning Im noticing inside of the gourd. Is this normal? I've only had it for a couple of weeks. Really dig this banjo and hope that nothing is wrong with it. Hopw you guys can help.

I have quite a few gourd banjo's, all homemade, and all of mine are painted on the inside, thus I cannot see if there is any browning. Gourds do change colour so, if unpainted, a change is to be expected. With a source like Bob Thornburg I would not be worried, but ask him.
	flatfootjohnny says: 3/22/2015 12:33:41 PM can you poke something inside the sound hole to check if the brown area is getting softer than the non brown area. If it is then it might be rotting. If not then keep an eye on it but it might just be a natural process. If it is rotting you might be able to carefully remove the skin, scrape away as much of the rotting area as you dare then re-inforce the whole area with GRP (fibre glass)

A neck for a banjoman, great action, sweet rich tone. My opinion is that robert made them, they left his shop? They are excellent. no worries. Then again; call him..ask Him. He's a nice guy he'd love to talk with you.
