Hey Guys and Gals,

I am looking at building a gourd banjo. I have David Hyatt's plans from the net that he did a few years back. I am sure to read everything here and get more thoughts and tips!! One question is: how big of a gourd should I use? I have several that are HUGE and flat.

	dhyatt says: 9/8/2012 9:30:42 AM Bob Thornburg has produced some banjos from very large gourds--I had one that was about 13" that produced a deep, rich, mellow sound. My own preference is for canteen or bottle gourds 8-10" dgh
	ploafman says: 10/17/2012 9:43:56 AM I've made 4 gourd banjos on 12 inch gourds (usually kettle gourds) and like the sound. I'm getting ready to make my fifth gourd banjo and this time I'm using a 11 1/4 inch canteen gourd and am interested if the slightly smaller size will make a big difference or not. The larger the gourd the larger the skin and over time more likely to sag. I also think the gourd banjos sound best without any sound holes, it seems to make a better sound, though it seems like it shouldn't Patrick Loafman gourdbanjos.weebly.com/
