Case/Gig bag for Menzies banjo?

From laertes22 on 8/23/2012 9:07:46 PM

I have a Menzies Tackhead and a Menzies Gourd banjo.  They are both 26inch scale.  The tackhead is a 13inch, and I believe the gourd is 9 or 10 inches.  I need something to keep them in when I'm not playing them.  I assume it would be pretty hard to get a case to fit them, and I don't have the necessary skills to make a case, so I am thinking something like a soft case/gig bag.

Any ideas of a specific gigbag/soft case that would work for each of these?

I use a Boulder Alpine series gig bag for my Barry Sholder gourd banjo. I don't take the banjo away from home much so this fairly sturdy bag works well for me. Mine is the 11 inch open back model and the gourd on my banjo is about 10 inches. I would probably throw a towel around the head if I took the banjo out much.

Meant to include this too, I also have a 13 inch Prust tackhead which stays mainly at home along with the gourd banjo. It lives in a guitar gig bag I bought at guitar center. I think it is the following model.

I use the same Buolder Alpine gig bag for my Menzies gourd. It's only about $40-50 from Elderly. Good bag, lots of pockets, and two backpack straps! I love it. Be sure to order the one for RESONATOR banjos- has much more room. Also, place the banjo in BACKWARDS with the back of gourd towards the bag pockets- this fits much better! Be sure to lay the bridge down when transporting in the gigbag- gourds are more vulnerable if accidentally bumped or squashed...god forbid.

Thanks so much guys. Lisa, did you mean the Resonator one for the gourd or for the Tackhead? The tackhead is a 13inch head, but do you think if I got the resonator one, it would fit?
